Monitoring And Research

Wildlife Population Estimation :

The accurate estimation of wildlife population density is difficult and requires a considerable investment of wealth and time. It is very much important to monitor the population of exiting wild animals. For example, the population may be a valued game species (e.g. tigers, deer) that is being managed on a sustained-yield basis. In Corbett an annual census is carried out during summers to estimate the numbers of prominent animal species to understand trends and determine the success of management practices on wildlife. Dedicated counting of tigers is done every fourth year as part of an All India Tiger Census under Project Tiger.

Research :

Research plays an important role in the management of Corbett and adds value to existing scientific knowledge. Research institutions are encouraged to carry out surveys and long-term studies on threatened species and the Corbett ecosystem. Such studies generate outputs that are relevant not only to Corbett but have a wider application vis-ã-vis other protected areas.
